TALK OVERVIEW

History of developer evangelism

We think of Developer Evangelism as a new and emerging field having been invented in the web era and the advent of web service APIs.

Certainly this has been the growth phase. However, developer evangelism has a long history stretching back through the early 90s of Apple and, if we are willing to broaden our definition to all of technical evangelism, back to the 1950s with Wordless Workshop and innovative cookbooks of the era.

In this session we will start at the dawn of consumer evangelism then progress through early Apple days, the famous Guy Kawasaki, and up to the present of web developers and Pintrest. Along the way we will learn valuable lessons that still apply to today’s efforts at helping our audience be successful.
